Having one to one tuition will certainly help with all the above, giving your child the opportunity to work at a pace where they can really advance and build in confidence. An experienced subject specialist GCSE/IGCSE tutor who understands the curriculum and mark schemes inside out, can make all the difference.

We have a particularly talented and dynamic team of local and online GCSE tutors, including senior teachers, heads of department, examiners, and academic professionals such as linguists, scientists, and writers.

Many of them are past and present teachers at some of London’s top schools, including Alleyn’s, City of London, Dulwich College, Emanuel, Highgate, JAGS, Latymer, Putney High, and Westminster. All have deep subject expertise and experience with the various exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR.

Every year our students achieve significant grade-lifts, particularly in the core subjects. Our tutors travel to most areas of London including Balham, Battersea, Chelsea, Clapham, Dulwich, Kensington and Wimbledon.

Our 8 top tips to help support your child’s GCSE studies

1.

Understand the Syllabus

Before diving into revision, ensure your child fully understand the exam board specifications for each subject, such as AQA, Edexcel, or OCR. Make sure they are focusing on the key topics, assessment objectives, and mark schemes to guide study sessions toward what truly matters. This clarity will save them time and effort in the long run.

2.

Create a Study Plan

A realistic and organized study timetable will be their best friend. Start early and break each subject into smaller, manageable topics. Allocate specific time slots for each, ensuring a balance of revision sessions, breaks, and practice with past papers. A structured plan will help them stay on track and avoid last-minute stress.

3.

Master Revision Techniques

Passive reading isn’t enough. Reinforcing memory is key, using flashcards, mind maps, and concise summary notes. Regular self-testing will highlight weak areas and help track their progress over time.

4.

Practice Past Papers

They must familiarise themselves with the exam format by practicing as many past papers as possible under timed conditions. Encourage them to review their answers with the mark schemes to understand where they can improve and how to secure those extra marks.

5.

Focus on Exam Techniques

Good exam technique is just as important as knowing the content and this includes time management and ensuring every question is answered. Read each question carefully, underline key words, and plan longer responses to make sure they are well-structured and cover all required points.

6.

Prioritise Core Subjects

Core subjects will carry the most weight, so prioritise them. For English, practice essay writing and text analysis. In Maths, solve problems step-by-step and revisit challenging topics regularly. For Science, focus on memorising key concepts and applying them to real-world scenarios through practice questions.

7.

Take Care of Your Well-Being

At this age mental and physical health are crucial to effective learning. Ensure your child is getting enough sleep, eating healthily, and staying hydrated. Regular physical activity can also reduce stress and improve focus, helping them to stay sharp during revision and exams.

8.

Ask for Help

If you feel that your child is struggling, don’t delay speaking with their teachers. Equally our team have years of experience and will be able to recommend several ways to help support them. This might include individual tuition, intensive group sessions or simply reassurance.
